If you’re an antique lover, you’ve probably seen Sally Schwartz’s handiwork. As the founder, executive producer and creative director of Image Pilots, Schwartz and her crew produce such events as the Randolph Street Market and Modern Vintage Chicago. Her background includes stints with all event elements, from booking high-roller junkets to Vegas to designing high-end corporate invitations, and her experiences led to the creation of party planning business Paint Me a Party, which was renamed Image Pilots in 2001 (and named a Top 50 Global Event Planning Company soon after). But while we applaud Schwartz for her attention to detail and her impeccable taste, we owe a shout-out to her 12-year-old daughter, whose keen designer’s eye is one of Schwartz’s secret weapons.
View Image Pilot’s creativity in person (and stock up on unbeatable antiques) at the Modern Vintage show this weekend.
Friday, October 16: 6pm-9pm (preview party benefiting the Chicago Fashion Foundation)

I feel prettiest when…
My hair is soft and fluffy and my eyes are not tired from the computer.
I am always searching for …
The fastest way to the middle.
My favorite place to shop is…
Hong Kong, truly, they have an indoor shopping center that runs the entire span of Hong Kong underground and it has the latest Italian & French fashions – you never have to carry one shopping bag because they run the stuff back to your hotel and put it in your room! Also love Shanghai Tang which is in the old part of Hong Kong.
The best beauty tip I ever received…
If you have no mascara, you can take dabs of lip gloss and tweak out the tips of your eyelashes, makes them plump and hold shape.
My favorite beauty product from my past is…
Psssssssst – that was what it was called, Psssssst and it was a spray on instant dry shampoo!! Super easy for the lazy person like myself.
My most embarrassing beauty moment was…
When I went to the opening of a park in Chicago, it was a hot summer day and my super short sundress was tucked into the back of my waist high underpants.
The first thing I do when I wake up is…
Check to be sure I don’t kick one of three animals that may be somewhere on my bed.
I could never live without…
My daughter, I depend on her joy, her humor and her super genius designer’s eye for everything at this point!
I will splurge on…
Decorative antique cigarette lighters.
Favorite fashion trend of all time…
Fishnet stockings, who ever came up with that one was really pushing the envelope!
What are you reading?
Who Killed Society by Cleveland Amory.
Biggest regret?
Didn’t take the sister Shitzu to my doggie Puddin’ – both dogs were from Anti Cruelty and looking for homes at the Palmer House doggy tea party.
Last concert you went to…
Paul Simon & Billy Joel.
Favorite sinful food?
Lou Malnati’s pizza & Eli’s cheesecake.
Most played song on your ipod right now?
Judy Garland “Life is just a bowl of Cherries” – the best things in life for you are just loaned ‘cause how can you lose what you never owned, life is just a bowl of cherries, so live and laugh at it all.
The best part of my day is…
Snuggling with my daughter when I wake her up – otherwise she’d toss me out with a backhand.
I would love to meet…
Edith Head, Truman Capote, & Dorothy Parker.
A movie I could watch over and over again is…
Dr. Zhivago – the pink mink trimmed coat, hat & muff that Tania wears is the most scrumptious winter get up I’ve ever seen!
Favorite Chicago neighborhood is…
Hyde Park/Kenwood FOR SURE, you feel like you’ve driven down this dunes swept coast line, leaving the city behind but you’re still on the lake and just a few minutes from the Field Museum. So close but miles and miles away in a quieter place in time. Lots of people don’t have answer machines or tv’s too, it has a totally retro, throwback feeling and because it’s historic, almost no tear downs anywhere. Haven’t seen one in the 8 years I’ve lived here.
Best advice you have ever received…
Don’t put the cart before the horse – one step at a time, etc. etc AND be careful because your reputation follows you wherever you go.
Worst haircut you ever received….
From a guy named JoJo who used to be on Oak Street – he cut all my hair off so fast, so completely randomly and so expensively – it was an assault and my head felt like a tennis ball when I was going for the Pat Benatar look.
